As Shrewsbury and Walsall clash for the second week in a row, after a strong victory in the league away at Walsall last week, this week sees Shrewsbury hosting the Saddlers but this time for the first round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Walsall came to Shrewsbury looking for revenge after losing 7-2 in the first fixture of the season last week, it was a fixture destined to be a battle for the ninety minutes.

Kick-off and immediately Walsall look the aggressors attacking into Shrewsbury’s half and testing the defence of the home team, this continues for the first five minutes of the game which combined with Shrewsbury not looking completely switched on at the start of the game leads to a goal for Walsall after a questionable display of defending

Shrewsbury 0-1 Walsall

That goal appears to have woken Shrewsbury up as they now begin to challenge back against the attacking Walsall, this leads to an attack towards the Walsall end, a shot is attempted towards the goal but is towards the keeper and should be controlled calmly, but due to a slip up from the Walsall goalkeeper the ball finds its way into the goal, an equalizer Shrewsbury wouldn’t have been intending for but will definitely take.

Half-Time 1-1

From this point on Shrewsbury look to be the team in control, preventing the Walsall attackers from breaking through towards the Shrewsbury goal, but Shrewsbury themselves seem to not be playing to the level they are capable of with possession being lost due to misplaced passes and poor team cohesion. This leads to a long ball from Walsall going over the Shrewsbury defence, one of the Shrewsbury defenders tries to head it back to the goalkeeper, but the header only skims of the defender’s head and leads to the Walsall forward scoring against the goalkeeper.

Walsall for the first time in a while get a break away from the defence wide on the left side of the Shrewsbury half, the Walsall forward tries their luck after seeing the Shrewsbury goalkeeper of their line, amazingly the ball is able to chip the keeper who’s far from reaching the ball, a goal that catches everyone off guard to give Walsall the lead

Shrewsbury 2-3 Walsall

Shrewsbury now on the back foot with not allot of time left in the game, they become the strong aggressors getting numbers forward and not giving Walsall a second to breathe on the ball. Possession Is heavy deep in the Walsall half with Shrewsbury finding attacks on the edge of the Walsall box, one break away run sees Shrewsbury’s forward in a goalscoring opportunity, but the Walsall player comes in with a challenge just too late that gives Salop a penalty.
