Captain Vikki Owen shares her thoughts and opinions after the 4-1 win to advance Shrewsbury Town Women into the second qualifying round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
This was a replay from last weekend where extra time was wrongly played meaning the win was false and a replay was to take place. This would be the third consecutive week that Walsall and Shrewsbury would clash so both teams knew what they were going into well acquainted with one another team by now.
The team did go on to win the game 4 goals to Walsall’s 1 to advance the team through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup which will be an away match at Westfields Women Football Club on the 3rd of October.
On her immediate reactions to the performance –
“I am really happy about how we played today, compared to last week the performance was like night and day. It goes without saying that getting the win was the focus of today but the fact we achieved that with a quality team performance was really good to be a part of.”
On whether the team felt nervous going into the third consecutive game against Walsall –
“I don’t think we were nervous, we knew we could beat them but it was important for us to go into the game with the right mind set and work rate to match.”
On scoring in impressive fashion –
“My first touch wasn’t ideal but it set me up nicely for the shot, I saw the keeper off her line and thought I would try my luck. It must have been my day!”
On feeling the momentum from three wins to start the season –
“Yes it definitely is, the team are feeling confident going into the season. There is still a lot to work on but the work rate we have at training and the standard of coaching will ensure that we continue to meet the high standards that we have set for ourselves.”
