Tom Peevor shares his reaction to the tough 2-2 draw against Shifnal Town. After last weekends unfortunate loss knocking Town out of the Vitality FA Cup, manager Tom Peevor was looking to pick up for again and continue the winning run in the league. Unfortunately what stood in their way was a very physical and challenging Shifnal Town, playing at their home ground Shifnal looked to be confident in their ability to prevent Shrewsbury from collecting another three points and even with one of their players shown a red, they managed to hold onto a 2-2 draw leaving Town only going home with 1 point.

Tom Peevor –

You’ll leave this game with a point against the toughest opposition this season, are you happy with the result today?

This was a very tough game, physically more than anything. We were the better team and had chances that we should have taken. We are pleased with the point but frustrated not to take all three.

It was definitely a struggle to break down Shifnal to create goalscoring chances, why do you think that was?

I think we did create a number of chances as the game went on. Unfortunately, we were not ruthless enough to finish them off. Shifnal had a lot of numbers back and looked to just launch the ball up the pitch where possible. It’s always tough to break a team down like that, who do their best to defend. Having said that our second goal was unbelievable, I think only one outfield player doesn’t touch the ball in the build-up.

The conditions weren’t the best today and with a rougher opposition then ever faced before, do you think the team had to deal with challenges they’ve never faced before?

This game showed two very different teams, today we showed that we can play a very physical game and at the same time play attractive football. Again, a great advert for young female footballers. I thought we were fantastic in those aspects of our game. Shifnal played their usual aggressive and direct style which was a tough watch until the referee used his cards to help keep our players safe. I don’t believe it’s enjoyable to play in a team like Shifnal Town Ladies and definitely won’t inspire young females to play the game.

There were a couple injury scares during the game, one being the goalkeeper Phoebe Carter, is there any update on if any players did pick up an injury from the game?

We’ve had a fair few knocks during the game but nothing too serious. The resilience we showed to stick to our style of play and compete physically against Shifnal made me so proud to be a part of this team.
