Kick-Off
From the first minute of the game Shrewsbury were clearly keen to prove themselves in this game, with players who haven’t had regular minutes getting their opportunities to prove themselves and put on a showcase.
Within the first few minutes already possession taking place deep in Dawley’s half, with plenty of Blue and Amber shirts up supporting the attack, heavy pressure being put on the visitors, it was clear that this game would be an attacking display from the hosts and a test of defending for Dawley.
It didn’t take long until the constant attacks from Town began to convert, with plenty of shots being taken at the Dawley goal it was inevitable that some was show serious danger. The first of those to come from midfielder Jess Walley finding herself in a good amount of space in the box to start the goals off for Town in the 6th minute of the game.
As the game continued the number of shots rose drastically, its wasn’t long until forward Zoe Child was creating danger for Dawley and putting Town two goals ahead. As the half-progressed Dawley saw two more goals go past them one from Shannon McShane and a second for Zoe, although four goals in the first half seems like a good result Town looked frustrated by the lack of conversion from the multiple strong chances created as they know the scoresheet doesn’t reflect the dominance they’ve displayed.
As the second half begins it appears not much has changed from the first half as midfielder Paris Schofield finds herself scoring within the first minute of the second half, but before Dawley can’t even reflect on what went wrong Jess Walley unleashes another good strike putting town two goals up within two minutes of play.
Whilst the first half of the game was a strong and dominant display from Shrewsbury nothing could have predicted the second half performance, with Town showing impressive possession play and chance creation and as the minutes rolled on the goals kept coming, with eleven goals being scored in the second half by Town before the final whistle. With notable goals coming from Shannon McShane displaying some impressive finishing to collect herself four goals in total; Captain Vikki Owen scoring a well won header from a corner showing Shrewsbury’s threats from set-pieces, Zoe child who by the end of the game finishing with two goals and two assists, Mia Pugh with three assist and a goal to her name, Jess Walley who was able to get herself a hat-trick before being substituted and also Libby Veitch who within the ten minutes of her coming on managed to score two goals in impressive fashion.
But credit must be given to every single player in Blue and Amber in the game who played equal part in every goal created, the game was an astonishing showcase of a team effort, with all goals being a result of build-up play starting from all the way from the goalkeeper to the attackers, every player contributed to the result of the high scoring game.
Dawley also deserving of praise as they didn’t back down from the challenge, they knew they had to face for the game, and kept playing at one hundred percent for the whole game, deserving of admiration.
