Kick-Off
Shrewsbury start off the game with a high press making it difficult for Port Vale to settle into the game from the very first whistle. The high press creating opportunities for Salop fast and regularly.
Within five minutes of the game a breakthrough run for Salop sees the visiting goalkeeper rush out to tackle the ball. The ball in touched past her but the attacking player is fouled, calls for a penalty but the referee gives a free-kick and books the keeper.
Abbie McShane steps up to try her luck at goal from the set-piece, the shot is good and is out of reach from the keeper but the shot skims off the bar and goes out for a goal kick.
Not long after the free-kick Shrewsbury are back on the attack, Libby Veitch finds herself making a great run where she knocks it past her defender and dribbles round the keeper for an easy finish and a wonderful goal.

Maddie Jones and Shannon McShane linking up well together upfront for Salop with each player taking turns creating offensive opportunities for the other, such a chance came from Shannon attacking down the right side of the pitch, she whips a cross into the box as Maddie runs into attack it but is just out of reach of the ball.
As the half continues more chances are created for Salop, attempts that sees the keeper make multiple saves denying Town of a second goal. On the border of half-time though Maddie jones would show a display of her own solo ability, when a header from the Captain Vikki Owen falls to Maddie Jones who flicks the pass over her defender before turning and outpacing all defenders and finishing into the bottom right corner. A stunning goal to see off the half.
42’ – GOAL – Maddie Jones – Assist – Vikki Owen
Half-Time – Salop lead at the break with a two-goal lead
As the second half continues a similar game proceeds, Salop attacking constantly due to their persistent pressing of Port Vale when possession is lost. The home side having to adapt their style slightly though to compensate for the strong wind causing their passes to travel further and faster than in the previous half.
Milly Potter who was having a great game forced to be subbed off after a foot injury, Lottie Etterley comes on in her place
It doesn’t take long though for quality chances to be created for Salop, when a pass is missed by a Port Vale defender, quick-thinking Maddie jumps onto the loose ball and like a mirror of the first goal, neatly slots the ball into the bottom right of the goal.
72’ – GOAL – Maddie Jones
Mia Pugh on for Shannon McShane
Anna France on for Grace Layton
Paris Schofield on for Brogan Cook
The game appears to have slow down as the end of the 90 looms closer, but when given some space substitute Paris Schofield tries her luck from extremely deep, the shot, carried by the wind soars towards the goal and slips under the bar just above the keeper’s reach, finishing off the game in exceptional fashion.
With one of the most impressive overall performances from the team this season Salop finish the game with all three points, keeping themselves at the top of the league. Every player deserving recognition as it was the whole team effort that brought on the win, from Phoebe’s distribution in goal; all the defenders preventing any chances at goal, the midfield facilitating the forward attacks and the attackers in their chance creation.
