Following the toughest game, Shrewsbury Women have faced this pre-season, Harry Brown reflects on the performance to highlight the positives from the game.

The Shrewsbury defence were tested against the strong Wolves side, and did well to stop goalscoring opportunities. It was a few unfortunate mistakes that lead to Wolves getting the 3 goals they did in the end.

On the positives from the performance

Yeah, despite the defeat I feel there are lots of positives to take from the game. Last time we played them we really struggled so this was a good comparison to see how far we’ve come as a team since last season and we gave a really good account of ourselves, we kept going, created some good chances in the game and worked really hard until the end.

On the strong defensive performance despite conceding

We knew today was going to be a tough game and that the whole team would have to be really focused and disciplined defensively if we were going to do well. Everyone worked hard for each other and stayed organised and for large parts of the game I think we managed to contain them, so it was good to see things we had worked on in training come out on the pitch.

On how everyone’s feeling with two games of pre-season left

Myself and the team are eager and excited for the start of the season. The team continues to gel together better with each game and we have two more friendlies which will again be a good test for us. The team has had a positive start to preseason but today’s game gives us lots of things to keep working and improving on to be ready to hit the ground running.
