It would have been nearly a whole month since the team last played a proper fixture, and to take the rust off Town were to face a formidable opposition in The New Saints Women (TNS).

Both teams of the start fighting for possession as either team look strong with their pressing on the opposition. With dangerous attacks coming at either end it wouldn’t be for a good chunk of the first half before the keepers would be tested, this would be a testament to both teams’ defenders who throughout the whole game very impressive and clinical in stopping either team from having a chance at goal.

TNS would take the lead around the halfway mark of the first half, as a loose ball in hit by a TNS player whose shot is just out of reach of Pheobe Carter in goal for Shrewsbury. The rest of the half would continue with chances created for either side, with Maddie Jones creating difficulties for TNS with her speed breaking open the opposition.

Going into the second half Shrewsbury made multiple changes giving as many players as possible a chance to play. The second half also brought on a new momentum for Town, as they began to start controlling more of the game. Passing into space creating gaps in TNS’s high pressing play, a defensive mix-up from TNS’ defence allows Town the opportunity to get themselves level in the game with a calm and composed finish capitalising on the mistake.

A great save from the TNS Keeper would deny Maddie Jones from giving Town the lead, but, a lovely chip over the keeper later on would provide Shrewsbury with the lead which would be seen out to the full-time whistle. A great game of football that saw both teams give it their all for the whole 90 minutes. A great warm up for the team as they head into the second half of the season in their race for promotion.
